Banana Split Protein Smoothie

August 16, 2017 2 Comments

One of my favorite childhood memories was our annual banana split dinner date night. We waited all summer for it. The week before we went back to school we would hit up our favorite ice cream spot and would pig out! Banana splits all around the table. I remember always leaving with a giant tummy ache and an even larger smile on my face!

What kid doesn’t love ice cream for dinner?! Mine sure do! I have since carried this delicious tradition on with my own kids. Making memories with my people is what I love most, especially over yummy food! To me there is no better combination. Last week we had our annual back to school banana split feast and it totally inspired this recipe.

I decided to take all the components from my favorite childhood dessert and create a protein packed smoothie recipe we can enjoy everyday! Let’s face it, anytime I can have dessert for breakfast, I usually do!

Bonus, my family loved it too! It’s now been named my seven year olds favorite smoothie. We’ve had it for breakfast twice this week already and I think I’ll make it for dessert tonight! I’d much rather my family enjoy a protein packed “dessert” smoothie over cookies and cake. Wouldn’t you?

Yes this smoothie is good for you, despite the delicious name. It’s packed full of fruit, protein and a little something special to keep you full longer and curb those sweet tooth cravings!

Want to know the secret ingredient?

Vanilla Bean ProYo ice cream. It’s rich, creamy, delicious and loaded with protein! I found it at my local Kroger store (search here for a freezer full near you) and I’ve been hooked ever since. It takes this smoothie recipe to a whole new level, bumping up the total protein to 12g per serving! I told you it was good. Do I ever let you down?

I also have a BOGO coupon code from my friends at ProYo for you here. You’re welcome.

Can we pause for a minute to admire how beautiful these strawberries are? They don’t even look real… I am such a sucker for pretty food.

Okay back to the recipe.

I used frozen pineapple and cherries to add that cold refreshing element, but feel free to use fresh if you’d prefer. Just make sure to add a few more cubes of ice. There is nothing worse than a room temperature smoothie, am I right?

Of course we topped ours with a drizzle of all natural chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a maraschino cherry in true banana split fashion. I don’t recommend you skip that part. Next time I think I’ll add a sprinkle of chopped sundae nuts too! Next level.

I hope you love this banana split smoothie as much as we do! It’s seriously B A N A N A S!

Sorry for that. I had to.

ENJOY!
